LEADING PRIVATE SCHOOLS
(sample)
These
schools are presented together in the belief that they are of
first interest to the readers of the
Handbook. They may
be included because of their international and historical
renown, because they command general respect of parents and
educators, and also because our information discloses unique or
significant aspects of their programs that are deserving of the
reader’s attention. (Many more schools are listed in the Concise
School Listings section following the Leading Private Schools section.)

TERM PROGRAMS
This
section describes secondary-level academic term programs
(usually operating on a semester system) that combine
credit-bearing course work with experiential learning. Programs
may have an environmental focus and typically employ the local
environs as a significant teaching tool. Curricula are designed
to promote academic continuity between the student’s home
school and the term program. Maine Vermont New

This
section is provided as a supplement to the basic descriptions.
More than 200 schools have paid for this space to portray, with
their own words and pictures, their programs, objectives and
ideals. These announcements are separated into groups as shown
below. Summer programs and foreign schools that are not
elsewhere described in the Handbook are included.
